About Chowdar

Houston's food radar

Houston has more good food than anybody can keep up with. Spots open every week, old favorites close, a pop-up shows up in a brewery lot for one Saturday, and the best taco you'll have all year is in a strip mall you've driven past a hundred times. Chowdar keeps up with it so you don't have to.

What's in it

Local first

Chowdar is about the family taquerias, the BBQ trailers and the Viet-Cajun joints you'd never find on a billboard. National chains are left out on purpose, except the few people actually get worked up about; if Houston's talking about it, it goes on the Chowdar.

Where it comes from

Chowdar pulls together what's already out there in public: restaurant listings, public ratings and reviews, Houston's food writers and news outlets, award lists, what people are buzzing about on social media, and event listings. We link back to the source whenever we can. Chowdar isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any of the sites or publications it draws from.
